What is an industry credit score?

What industry comparison means, why the same score is interpreted differently across sectors, and how to see where you stand.

What is an industry credit score?

The same score does not mean the same thing in every industry. The cash cycle of a manufacturer operating on long credit terms is nothing like that of a retailer selling for cash; therefore, what is considered 'normal' is also very different. An industry comparison allows you to interpret your score in its proper context.

What does an industry comparison do?

It places your company's results alongside the overall picture of peer businesses. This answers two distinct questions: how does your company perform on its own, and where does it stand relative to its peers?

The second question corrects situations that might be misleading when viewed in isolation. A financial position common in your industry might appear weak on its own; conversely, a result that looks comfortable may simply be average for your sector.

What is the comparison based on?

Firmaskor bases its industry comparisons on published sector statistics. The comparison is not a ranking or a rating; it simply provides context when interpreting your own result.

Where do industry differences become apparent?

  • Payment capacity: payment term habits vary significantly from sector to sector.
  • Debt burden: in capital-intensive businesses, the debt carried is naturally higher.
  • Profitability: low margins are normal in volume-driven businesses, but not in margin-driven ones.
  • Resilience: fluctuations are expected in seasonal businesses.
