Credit approval criteria: how is your application assessed?

In a business credit application, the assessment is not determined by a single document or figure. What is examined is the company as a whole: how comfortably it can make payments, the debt load it carries, how sustainable its earnings are, and how stable this picture remains over time.

Key factors in the assessment

  • Repayment capacity: how comfortably you can meet your obligations.
  • Debt burden: the weight of your outstanding debt relative to your capacity.
  • Profitability: how much of your turnover remains within the business.
  • Resilience: the stability of your results across years.
  • Complete and consistent financial data.

Preparations that improve the likelihood of approval

All preparation takes place in the period leading up to the application. Reviewing maturity structures, shortening collection periods and not stacking new commitments right before applying are three steps you can take in that period. None of these will transform the picture overnight. Their effect shows once the adjustments reach the financial data you enter, so measure your company again after each one.

Pre-application checklist

  • Do you know your company’s current score and status label?
  • Do you know which factor is dragging your score down?
  • Have you taken targeted action on that specific area?
  • Have you reassessed your company after making adjustments?
  • Is your financial data complete and up to date?

If you can answer “yes” to all five questions, your preparation goes beyond what most companies do.
